Dates have been set up for the large group summer fittings. Accents, SuSo, CGS, SS, and Debs all need to sign up for a time or contact Wendy Webb or Amy Walker. They will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 9-12 and 1-4 and Thursday, July 12 from 10-12 and 1-4. This is after Moratorium Week but before Boot Camp. We have created a signup sheet for both the students and parents to select a fitting time and the parents to select a volunteer. Grand Champions at Southwestern

Both CG Sound System and The Debtones were named Grand Champions Saturday evening at Southwestern, both earning captions for Best Choreography and Best Show. Congratulations to all competition groups for an excellent and highly successful 2012 competition season.

Top Honors at Norwell Invitational

Center Grove Choirs, with their rich tradition of vocal and performance excellence, swept the Mixed and Women’s Divisions at the Norwell Show Choir Invitational Saturday.

The Debtones continued their undefeated season earning another Grand Champion trophy in the Women’s Division. They also earned the caption awards for Best Vocal, Best Choreography and Best Stage Crew. Abby Lord was recognized for the best solo in a show. Their show includes a wide variety of music styles from Gershwin’s Can’t Be Bothered Now, to Faure’s Les Berceaux and finally Americano by Lady Gaga.

Sound System also had a very successful day at Norwell. They competed against 5 choirs in the finals to secure the Grand Champion trophy. They also earned the caption awards for Best Vocal, Best Choreography and Best Stage Crew. Sound System’s show is also quite diverse starting with Through the Looking Glass and concluding with Let Me Entertain You/Edge of Glory. In the middle of the show the guys charm the audience with a humorous Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting!

CG Singers earned the First Runner Up trophy in the Concert Choir Division. This was the group’s final competition this season. Their show ranges from the traditional Halleluiah from the Mount of Olives by Beethoven to a moving spiritual Soon’ah Will be Done by Dawson.

Grand Champion at Lawrence Central

Center Grove Choral Music Department swept three Grand Champion awards at the Lawrence Central Classic Saturday. Five CG choirs skillfully competed and two students participated in the solo competition. Perseverance, attention to detail and captivating vocals continue to set the choirs apart from their competition.

Sound System delivered a stellar final performance to secure the Grand Champion trophy. They also earned the caption awards for Best Visual and Best Vocal after competing against 7 choirs in the Mixed Competition Class. The Debtones competed against 6 choirs in the Unisex Competition Class, were also named Grand Champions and earned the caption awards for Best Visual and Best Vocal.

Accents were awarded the Grand Champion trophy in their first competition this year in the Unisex Festival Class. CG Singers and Surround Sound placed 3rd Runner Up in their divisions. All classes were challenging with numerous competitive choirs, but especially the Mixed Festival Class in which Surround Sound competed against twelve choirs.

In the solo competition, a very busy Joel Flynn captured the award for 1st Runner Up. He also competed as a member of Sound System and CG Singers.

The Center Grove choirs are directed by Christopher Pratt and Jennifer Dice, assisted by Sheila Leachman and choreographed by Andy Haines. The next completion event will be at Norwell High School on March 10. The next home event for all of the Center Grove Choirs is the Showcase of Champions at Center Grove High School March 22.

CG Choirs Strong at Pike Music Fest

Center Grove Choral Music continued a strong competition showing at the Pike Music Fest Saturday. Three choirs competed; CG Singers in the Concert Choir division, The Debtones in the Unisex Show Choir division and Sound System in the Mixed Show Choir division. Three students also competed in the solo competition.

The Debtones were named Grand Champions of the Unisex division competing against 5 choirs and also earned the award for Best Choreography. Hannah Sturm was named outstanding performer of the group.

CG Singers placed 2nd Runner Up in the concert division with a stirring program consisting of classical choral pieces and spirituals. Their division included 5 choirs from the region.

Center Grove’s Sound System achieved 1st Runner Up in a field of 7 Mixed Show Choirs. Their engaging show ranges from Broadway standards to pop anthems. Lauren Courtney was named the group’s outstanding performer.

In the solo competition, Joel Flynn captured the Grand Champion trophy and Alise Lofgren received the 4th Runner Up trophy.

Center Grove Choirs Earn Highest Scores at Invitational

The Center Grove Debtones performed an entertaining show incorporating precise dance sequences and beautiful vocals in the women’s division at the 17th Annual Churubusco High School Show Choir Invitational. In the mixed varsity division, CG Sound System took to the stage offering crowd-pleasing choreography, humor and rich vocals.

The Debtones were named Grand Champions of the women’s division of the Invitational, capturing awards for Best Vocals and Best Choreography. Brittany Combs was named outstanding performer of the group. Abby Lord was awarded best female soloist, women’s division, for her performance in the Debtones closing number “Americano”.

Center Grove’s Sound System achieved the highest scoring in a field of nine mixed varsity groups in both the preliminary and final competition rounds. Lauren Courtney was named the group’s outstanding performer.

CG Debtones Named Grand Champions

Congratulations to The Center Grove Debtones on winning Grand Champion in the unisex division Saturday, November 19 at the Southmont Show Choir Invitational in Crawfordsville, IN. Their high energy show wowed the packed auditorium. The group also collected honors for best vocals and best choreography. Hannah Sturm was honored as Outstanding Performer.

CG Surround Sound competed in the Festival division of the same competition and received first runner up honors. Rachel Connors was recognized as Outstanding Performer.

Congratulations to CG Sound System on winning Grand Champion Saturday, November 5 at Central Crossing High School in Grove City, Ohio. Their hard work was evident to all Saturday night! Special congrats to Gabe Stout for Outstanding Performer and Heather Nawrocki for Best Female Soloist in a Show.

CG Sound System has been in existence for twenty-nine years and in that time has built a reputation of being one of the nation’s top show choirs. This varsity show choir holds the highest number of Showstoppers Grand Champion titles with seven.
